ABSOLUTE OIL
“Absolute Oil” refers to a concentrated form of essential oil that is obtained through a process called solvent extraction. This method involves using a solvent, such as ethanol or hexane, to extract the aromatic compounds from plant materials. The result is a highly potent and fragrant oil that captures the essence of the plant from which it is derived.
Unlike other types of essential oils, absolute oils are often derived from delicate flowers or plants that cannot withstand the high temperatures used in steam distillation. Examples of plants commonly used to produce absolute oils include jasmine, rose, tuberose, and neroli.
The process of extracting absolute oils begins by immersing the plant material in the chosen solvent. Over time, the solvent absorbs the volatile compounds from the plant, creating a mixture known as a concrete. The concrete is then further processed by removing the solvent through evaporation, leaving behind a thick, aromatic substance called an “absolute.”
Due to their concentrated nature, absolute oils are highly prized in the perfume and fragrance industries. They are known for their rich and complex scent profiles, often capturing the truest essence of the plant. However, it’s important to note that absolute oils are not typically used for therapeutic purposes like other essential oils. Instead, they are primarily employed in perfumery and as aromatic components in various cosmetic and personal care products.
