The name covers two closely related but distinct mint oils. Peppermint oil is steam-distilled from Mentha × piperita, a hybrid mint prized for a rounded, sweet-cool aroma. Mentha oil, as traded from India, is steam-distilled from Mentha arvensis (cornmint or field mint) and is naturally very high in menthol — it is the primary raw material for natural menthol production. After menthol is partially removed, the remaining dementholised mentha oil (DMO) is a widely used, cost-effective mint oil in its own right. Mint oils are produced by steam distillation of the freshly harvested or field-dried herb. 1. Is Peppermint / Mentha Oil the same as peppermint oil?
